As Director of User Experience, Brad works with teams across the organization to solve design problems so members, educators, parents and other stakeholders can better access, use, and understand Smarter Balanced data, resources, policies, procedures and other online information. Prior to this role, Brad worked as Associate Director of Communications to support the external communications efforts through writing, editing, website development/management, and graphic design. In addition to redesigning, reorganizing, and revising the Smarter Balanced website, he developed new internal communications processes to improve messaging to external stakeholders. He has worked at Smarter Balanced since May 2015, beginning as a contractor focused on website development and moving into a full-time role on the communications team the following August.
Prior to joining Smarter Balanced, Brad taught at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN as a Lecturer in English. In this position, he taught courses in composition, communication design, and professional and technical writing. Before joining the English faculty at Lipscomb, Brad served as deputy director of communications at the Tennessee Department of Education, where he supported the department with web and graphic design. He received an MA in English from Middle Tennessee State University and an MA in Professional Writing from Carnegie Mellon University.
Brad lives in Nashville with his dog, Chip.
