As Digital Communications Specialist, Renee works with the Smarter Balanced Communications team to develop digital platforms and content to effectively engage the students, parents, teachers, and education leaders in Smarter Balanced member states.
Renee is an award-winning higher education communication professional with a background in strategy, social media, editorial planning, multimedia journalism, integrated marketing, executive and crisis communication, and distance education. Formally trained as a reporter, Renee holds a baccalaureate in Broadcast News with a focus in New Media and a minor in Creative Writing from Mizzou. She also holds a Master of Liberal Arts degree from UChicago, where she studied the iconography of tech and how humans use metaphor to interact with machine. Most recently, she finished a two-year certificate program in Integrated Marketing. Renee and her former team of talented producers won multiple awards in the Chicago International Film Festival’s Intercomm Interactive Video & Media Competition. Currently, she mentors new entrepreneurs on communication strategy at 1871, Chicago’s start-up incubator.
