Amy Thierry serves as the director of supports for instruction. Amy supports educators using the Smarter Balanced Digital Library, an online collection of instruction resources designed to improve classroom-based assessment practices that incorporate the formative assessment process to support high quality teaching and learning for all students.
Prior to joining Smarter Balanced, Amy worked at Washington state’s Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction for the Learning Assistance Program where she provided state-wide leadership in English language arts (ELA) best practices and strategies. Amy is also a former middle school teacher. She taught 7th and 8th grade ELA, health, and fitness, and she designed and led after-school and summer programs. Amy has also led efforts to strengthen instructional supports for English Learners.
Amy’s research and training experiences have focused on implementation best practices, ELA content, and student self-efficacy. Amy has a MA in Teaching from Saint Martin’s University and a BA in Liberal Arts from The Evergreen State College.
Amy enjoys cooking with her husband and walking her two small dogs.
