Alliance for Excellent Education Webinar

Director of Higher Education Collaboration Jacqueline King served as a panelist for “Getting Ready for the Assessment Consortia Field Tests,” a webinar hosted by the Alliance for Excellent Education. The webinar provided representatives from both consortia an opportunity to discuss implementation of the field tests and other recent developments.

Smarter Balanced Accessibility and Accommodations

Director of Support for Under-represented Students Magda Chia presented an overview of the Consortium’s work to ensure that the assessment system meets the needs of all students, including English language learners and students with disabilities. The presentation to the Council of the Great City Schools includes an update on accessibility and accommodations policy, translations, and item development with sample assessment questions.

 

Quality Criteria for the Digital Library

Director of Professional Learning Chrystyna Mursky provides background on the development of the Quality Criteria for the Digital Library, as well as an overview of the rating system to be used for resources. In addition, Formative Assessment Practices/Transition to the Common Core Work Group members explain how State Leadership Teams and State Networks of Educators will use the Quality Criteria to evaluate resources for the Digital Library starting in late August.

 

Smarter Balanced Proficiency-Based Learning and Assessments Webinar

Chief Operating Officer Tony Alpert hosted a webinar with representatives from Missouri to discuss the Consortium’s approach to supporting proficiency-based learning. Please note that the first few minutes are audio only; the PowerPoint presentation will appear following the introductions.

 

Discussion with Higher Education Math Faculty

Director of Support for Under-represented Students Magda Chia and Director of Higher Education Collaboration Jacqueline King hosted a webinar with higher education math faculty. The discussion focused on how the Smarter Balanced assessment system can accurately measure mastery of the Common Core State Standards for all students, including English language learners.
